Hungry for God

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4

Why we fast

  • To seek God and His guidance (Acts 13:2–3)
  • To humble ourselves and repent (Joel 2:12)
  • To share with those in need (Isa 58:7)

How to start

  1. Choose one meal, or something other than food.
  2. Spend that time in prayer and Scripture.
  3. Let each hunger pang remind you to pray.
  4. Keep it between you and God (Matt 6:17–18).
  5. Give what you would have spent to someone in need.

Please don’t fast from food without your doctor’s OK if you:

  • have had an eating disorder
  • are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive
  • have diabetes or blood-sugar problems
  • are under 18
  • take blood-pressure, heart, or other medication that must be taken with food

A non-food fast is a real fast. Try a fast from social media, TV or shopping instead.
