Week 1

Whose Body Is It?

1 Cor 6:12–20; Ps 139:13–16

Big idea

Your body is God’s good creation, bought with a price, so honor Him with it.

Outline

  1. God made it: the body is good (Gen 1:31).
  2. Christ bought it: you are not your own (1 Cor 6:19–20).
  3. God will raise it: the body has a future (1 Cor 15:42–44).

Weekly challenge: Write a prayer offering your body to God (Rom 12:1).

Week 2

Every Bite for His Glory

1 Cor 10:23–31; Daniel 1:8–16

Big idea

Food is a gift to receive with thanks and enjoy with self-control.

Outline

  1. Food is God’s gift, received with thanksgiving (1 Tim 4:4–5).
  2. Food is a good servant but a poor master (Phil 3:19; Prov 23:20–21).
  3. Daniel chose faithfulness over the king’s table (Dan 1:8).

Weekly challenge: Pray before every meal; add one vegetable a day.

Week 3

Hungry for God

Matt 6:16–18; Matt 4:1–4; Isa 58:6–7

Big idea

Fasting trades physical hunger for spiritual hunger and teaches that we live by God’s word.

Outline

  1. Jesus expected His followers to fast: “when you fast” (Matt 6:16).
  2. Fasting reminds us we live by every word from God (Matt 4:4).
  3. True fasting leads to justice and generosity (Isa 58:6–7).

Weekly challenge: A one-meal fast, or a fast from a favorite food, with prayer.

Week 4

Train Yourself for Godliness

1 Tim 4:7–8; 1 Cor 9:24–27

Big idea

Discipline of the body serves the discipline of the soul, and godliness comes first.

Outline

  1. Bodily training has real value (1 Tim 4:8a).
  2. Godliness has greater value, for this life and the next (1 Tim 4:8b).
  3. Run with purpose, not aimlessly (1 Cor 9:26–27).

Weekly challenge: Walk 20 minutes, 5 days, praying as you go.

Preaching notes

Preach as a fellow struggler

  • Open week 1 with a short, honest story of your own. It sets a humble, grace-filled tone for the whole series.
  • Never mention weights or single out bodies. Talk about habits and faithfulness.
  • In week 3, name who should not fast from food, and offer a non-food fast as an equal option.
  • Have a referral list ready for members who struggle with eating disorders.
